The first New Moon of 2021 falls under the sign of Capricorn from January 12th to 13th (depending on your time zone). This New Moon falls at 23 degrees Capricorn, which throughout 2020 was a noticeable degree in our cosmic sky. It was to this degree even in January 2020, that Saturn and Pluto aligned, and the stirrings of what was to happen for the coming year began.
If only we knew then what we know now. The New Moon arriving at this 23rd degree of Capricorn may remind us of the journey we have traveled since January 2020 and bring back memories of that time of last year. How much have we all grown? How much have our lives changed?
We have experienced so many rare astrological alignments in the past year, and while 2021 is calmer in comparison, we are still integrating all of these energies. This January New Moon will be one of our first major integration points. It can stir up the past, but it can also guide us to reflect and reflect on how far we’ve come in the past 12 months.
By reactivating this level of sensitivity in our cosmic sky, we can feel guided to reflect on how we have matured and how the challenges of the past 12 months have changed who we are and our priorities moving forward.
How have your priorities changed? How has your life taken on a new meaning?
While New Moons are always a good time to set intentions, it seems like we’re being asked to set intentions from a new place of knowing. Rather than falling back into the old ways, we are asked to think about moving forward. No return. Only moving forward.
A New Moon in Capricorn is always a fundamental influence and a good time to reconnect with the Earth, our ancestors, and our roots. We’re going to have to keep these gifts in mind as there are volatile energies around this New Moon that could throw us off balance.
The cosmic weather indicates a risk of upheaval, shock, and turmoil. It seems that there can be a push-pull dynamic of opposing forces that create a sense of division. This volatile energy is triggered in part by the dwarf planet Eris, the goddess of discord and conflict, which will be in a tense square or 90-degree angle to this New Moon.
Uranus, Mars, and Black Moon Lilith will also be active at this time, further pushing this idea of shocking news or surprising change. We can even notice that Mother Earth is expressing itself through strong weather conditions.
A few days after this January 14th New Moon, Uranus, the planet of awakening, will also go direct, further enhancing its energetic effects and revealing the true colors of something that stirred us in August 2020, during its retrograde.
Whatever challenges we face, just as the Capricorn has the talent and skills to climb to the highest mountain and swim in the deepest depths of the ocean, we also have the ability to overcome all the obstacles ahead.
You are strong enough to handle whatever comes your way.
While there are many layers to this January New Moon, let’s not forget that New Moons also signals a new beginning and the beginning of a new cycle. They remind us that there are always opportunities to start new things or try again, especially if something didn’t quite go as planned the first time around.
The January New Moon also offers motivational rays that will inspire and fuel us to tackle any difficult task at hand. We may also notice a sudden burst of confidence and clarity, enabling us to make difficult decisions.
The Universe supports us, so know that you are not alone under this dark New Moon sky.
Under the first New Moon of the year, as you climb your own mountain or swim in your own ocean, take a moment to marvel at the journey you’ve been traveling. Honor how much you’ve grown and matured, and how your priorities have improved.
2020 wasn’t a wasted year. It has been a year to wake up, to realign our values, and to see things in a new way. Use everything you have learned and apply it to all the intention seeds you plant on this New Moon night.
