Throughout our lives, we are confronted with the expectations of those around us at every stage of our life. These expectations can be based on ideas and stereotypes surrounding our race, culture, religion or gender.
They can be based on our training, the career path we choose or the way we express ourselves through our personal style. No matter where these concepts come from, they have the ability to influence our thoughts and behaviors, helping to shape who we are.
For example, consider the young woman as she prepares to finish high school. If she was raised in a society where her expected role is based on family unity and responsibility for her family, she may be influenced to prioritize her family before her potential career goals.
However, the same young woman grew up in a different atmosphere in which women are pushed to pursue their goals and succeed, she could apply to the best universities with a dream of breaking the glass ceiling.
When we consider stereotypes, we often turn to the larger and more obvious ones – those associated with our race or gender, but anything that sorts or defines groups of people can be filled with the expectations and opinions of the society. One area that is often overlooked is that of the signs of the zodiac.
However, if I said that I am a Taurus, don’t you automatically assume that I must be incredibly stubborn (even if it’s true)? Although these expectations are often based on certain facts, they are not always 100% true. In many cases, reality does not match the image you have created.
