How to Harvest the Powerful Energy of the October New Moon in Libra

There is nothing chill about 2020’s astrology. In the continuing theme of cosmic chaos, we have a lot on our lunar plate this month. Wedged between the intense double October Full Moons that begin and end the month is the October 2020 New Moon, which rises on Friday, October 16 in Libra.

While this lunation sounds like a breath of fresh air during an otherwise tough astrological week, there will be moody planets and retrogrades that will stir up drama. We’ve got to be careful when it comes to what we should/shouldn’t do during this New Moon.

New Moons generally correspond to the energy of a new beginning, and having this one in partnership-oriented Libra, gives us the opportunity to begin new journeys within our closest romantic or work relationships, as well as within legal issues or justice matters.

However, we will need to overcome some cosmic obstacles in order to get our plans started. The New Moon will be hit by frustrating planetary aspects like retrograde Mars, Saturn, and Pluto, all of which clash with the Moon and Sun during this lunation and put a bit of a damper on that otherwise airy vibe.

With these planets clashing, we can expect disagreements, roadblocks, anger, and even moments of crisis all through New Moon weekend. On top of all this, the retrograde Mercury of Autumn 2020 begins a few days before the rising of the New Moon, so we will also experience the mental confusions, timing issues, and communication conflicts this transit is infamous for.

In short, there’s a lot going on, so here’s everything you should and shouldn’t be doing during the October 2020 New Moon.

Be clear and calm in your communications:

Between a new retrograde period of Mercury and the raging energy of Mars’ opposition aspect to the New Moon, it will be extremely important to stay cool, calm, collected, and clear in the way you communicate.

This New Moon gives us a chance to start over within our closest partnerships, but we will need to avoid any misunderstandings or emotional arguments. Choose your words wisely, and if you find yourself arguing or getting angry, pause the conversation before moving forward.

Don’t take anything to the extreme:

Pluto, the planet that represents dynamics and power transformations, squares off with the Moon, the Sun, and the aggressive planet Mars during this lunation.

This can easily push our emotional states and anger to the ends of the spectrum. Check yourself in when it comes to everything in your life that reaches the point of being too polarizing, whether it’s your mood, opinions, or actions.

Be fair even when fighting:

Some aspects of the New Moon might activate our aggressive and argumentative sides, making us thirsty for power, competitive, and defensive.

Instead of letting your fears and power trips take over, be objective, and think about what’s right rather than how you feel. Our emotions are simmering beneath the surface right now, so while it’s good to recognize them, it isn’t always necessary to act on them.

Don’t give up even when it gets hard:

There are a lot of difficult planetary aspects that throw roadblocks at us during this New Moon but it’s still a New Moon, and it’s always a great time to manifest healthier relationship dynamics, justice, and fairness in legal matters, and more balance in your life.

If we are determined and clear about our New Moon goals, we can overcome adversity and begin to build more harmony in our lives and in our partnerships.

Be a little kinder:

The cosmic drama is frustrating, but it’s there to help teach us lessons, especially when it comes to the responsibility-driven planet Saturn squaring off with this lunation.

If we want to counterbalance some of the harsh, aggressive, and restrictive energy, the best thing we can do is embrace the charm and diplomacy of the Libra season. Being polite and kind can go a long way in making this New Moon weekend more tolerable, so line up with the Sun and Moon energy and take a page out of Libra’s book.

Don’t forget to make justice a priority:

The energy of this lunation will draw our attention inward, to our personal problems, our intuition, and our feelings. However, as the Sun and Moon align in Libra, which governs partnerships and justice, we naturally focus on external matters.

We must keep an eye on the prize when it comes to manifesting justice and building a more balanced and harmonious future. Since we are on the brink of Election Day 2020, an easy New Moon in Libra ritual is to vote or solidify your voting day plan.
