Chinese New Year Starts on February 12th. The Year of the Metal Ox

The Chinese New Year is about to start on the 12th of February, 2021. This day is also a New Moon that ushers the Year of the Ox.
A New Year also brings images of fireworks, celebration, hugs, gifts, and a change in the calendar. The West observes its New Year immediately as our Earth completes one whole circle around the Sun.

This also changes our relationship with other planetary bodies and stars. However, not all calendars follow the movement of the Sun. Some are lunar calendars like the Chinese calendar which measures time-based on the relationship of the Earth to the Sun and the Moon. Therefore, the Chinese New Year is different from the Western New Year.

Chinese people celebrate their New Year by exchanging red envelopes containing money based on the challenges the person faced throughout the previous year. The older Chinese offer red envelopes to single people or children.

2021 will be governed by the Ox, starting on February 12th. The Ox is also called Buffalo. Additionally, the Ox signifies characteristics such as determination, courage, hard work, and honesty through yellow, green, and white colors.
